Washington Post launches Comic Riffs blog

The Washington Post has launched a new blog called “Comics Riff” which will be maintained by former Warped cartoonist Michael Cavna. The blog will be a daily critique of the funny pages, as well as interviews with cartoonists, reader polls and live discussions.

Drew Litton’s “The Broncs Zoo” debuts

Drew Litton, the staff sports cartoonist at the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, debuts the first installment of his online animated cartoon series “The Broncs Zoo.”

The Denver Broncos have long been my favorite topic to draw about (25 years now at the Rocky Mountain News) and I’m always looking for fun ways to cartoon the season as it unfolds.

So this year, I’m jumping head first into the pool of animation with online cartoon webisodes of The Broncs Zoo. It’ll be about all things Broncos related and kind of like Saturday morning cartoons except without the cereal commercials. It will be regular feature on rockymountainnews.com right next to my daily sports cartoons.

German government creates anti-extremism cartoon strip

The German government is developing a comic strip in an attempt to drive Muslim youth away from Islamic extremism and the cartoon is being met with a great deal of resistance from the Muslim community. You can listen to an interview about the comic strip with Taris Ahmad, a representative of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, talking about the challenges facing German Muslims.

F Minus creator Tony Carrillo to teach class for kids

Winners announced in Kyoto Cartoon Contest

New CG Garfield To Air On Cartoon Network

Turner Broadcasting has acquired the rights to The Garfield Show, will be shot in HD, and debut on the Cartoon Network in 2009. The series will air in territories across Europe, Middle East and Africa; Asia Pacific and Latin America.

Comic creator leaves $250k to Cincinnati academy

Franklin Folger, creator of The Girls has left $250,000 to the Art Academy of Cincinnati to create an endowment to purchase artwork for the academy’s collections according to E&P.

Franklin died last November.
