Jeff Smith’s The Cartoonist wins a regional Emmy

The Cartoonist, the documentary on BONE creator Jeff Smith, won a regional Emmy for best documentary. If you haven’t seen the documentary, pick it up at Amazon.com. The documentary was directed by Ken Mills and features Scott McCloud, Colleen Doran, Harvey Pekar and Paul Pope.

Dwane Powell to be honored for art achievement

National Newspaper Award goes to Brian Gable

Quick congratulations to Canadian editorial cartoonist Brian Gable (The Globe and Mail) for winning this year’s National Newspaper Award. Runners up included Malcolm Mayes (Edmonton Journal), and Terry Mosher (AKA “Aislin”) (the Gazette, Montreal).

Finalists in Green Eyeshade Awards: Bennett, Day, Lowe

Editorial cartoonists Clay Bennett (Chattanooga Times Free Press), Bill Day (United Features Syndicate) and Chan Lowe (The South Florida Sun-Sentinel) were named finalists in the the 60th annual Green Eyeshade Awards – a regional journalism competition in 11 southern states. Lowe wins local SPJ award for cartooning, blogging
