Trudeau, Herblock named in top 100 journalists list

Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau and legendary editorial cartoonist Herbert Block (“Herblock”) were named by the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University in a list of “the 100 Outstanding Journalists in the United States in the Last 100 Years.” The full list is the who’s-who of A-list journalists and writers.

  1. Good to see the cartoonists in there. Was surprised not to see New Yorker founder Harold Ross and humorist James Thurber (another wonderful cartoonist) on the list, but glad to see E.B. White on it. White discovered Thurber’s drawings and got them into print.

  2. As in any “hall of fame” list, it’s probably best to require that members be retired for a decent interval, if not dead. There are some names here that seem more collegial than well-considered choices. Which somewhat dulls the honor for everyone else.

  3. WHAT A JOKE! NO RUSH, KISS, MOODY BLUES,
T-REX,ELO!!!! Oh, sorry, wrong Hall of Fame

  4. Wow!….I guess Bill Mauldin, Oliphant, Walt Kelly, Paul Conrad and Jeff MacNelly came in 101,102,103,104 and 105. Close but no cigar.
