David Simpson loses OKlahoma Cartoonist Hall of Fame honor

In light of the recent cases of David Simpson’s plagiarism in the Urban Tulsa, the Toy & Action Figure Museum has retracted Simpson’s 2005 induction into the Oklahoma Cartoonists Hall of Fame.

Here is the statement in full by Musuem Director Lisa Driskill:

Due to the recent revelation of another apparent incidence of plagiarism on the part of David Simpson, who had been inducted into the Oklahoma Cartoonists Hall of Fame in 2005, before he had been terminated by the Tulsa World for plagiarizing another cartoonist’s work, the Oklahoma Cartoonists committee now hereby announces the formal retraction of that honor.

  2. Hey all. After e-mailing UTW Editor Gavin Elliot, this is the response I got:
    “Hi Keith ? I can appreciate your being upset about Simpson?s plagiarism. As soon as it was brought to our attention, Simpson was let go. We had already gone to press with the last one before it was brought to our attention, which is why it ran.”

    He went on to say in a follow-up e-mail that Simpson was a contract cartoonist and not on staff.

  3. On the plus side, this has caused me to revisit Jeff MacNelly’s work. The world just isn’t as fun without him in it.

  6. Indeed, there is a Cartoonists Hall of Fame, a small wing of the Toy and Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley, Okla.

    Caught definitely Stealing,
    Plagiarizing everything,
    Xeroxing other’s drawings,
    He won’t respect them in the morning…
