Tom Richmond to self publish The Mad Art of Caricature!

MAD Magazine cartoonist Tom Richmond is self publishing a new book entitled, “The Mad Art of Caricature!.” The book is 170+ pages and contains hundreds of illustrations, step-by-step techniques, tips, and in-depth theories on the art caricature. Book ships in September, but he’s taking pre-orders now with options of signed copies, copies with original art or both. Visit his website for details and pricing or do what I did and just go buy a copy.

  1. By far the best caricature lessons on the web are Tom Richmond’s so it’s only natural that this book will continue that tradition… Looking forward to it!!

  2. Cool cover, looks like it’ll be a good book. Speaking of books on caricature, is there anything out there on Mort Drucker besides “Familiar faces” by David Duncan (which is a nice book, but I would love to have more)?

  3. I saw his “dummy” copy at the San Diego Comic Con, and trust me, folks, this is going to be the caricaturist’s Bible in years to come. Tom has a great way of truly analyzing faces and poses and the teaching gift to tell YOU how it’s done. None of this “draw a circle, add two lines and Voila! The Mona Lisa!” crap. It’s detailed with hundreds of drawings and sketches. I’m not drawing much anymore, and I want one. 🙂

  4. Easiest prediction in my entire life: Tom’s book will become THE standard by which all future “how-to” books on caricature will be judged… The old gold standard was Lenn Redman’s book, “How to Draw Caricatures”, still a great resource, but it was published in 1984… Admittedly, Jim van der Keyl also has a fantastic how-to book on caricature, chock full of useful info and examples, however, I have to give the nod to Tom…
