Dwane Powell to be honored for art achievement

Former The (Raleigh) News & Observer editorial cartoonist Dwane Powell will be one of six receiving the 2010 Medal of Arts an award given by the The City of Raleigh Arts Commission. The award is given for lifetime achievement and artistic excellence. Other recipients include costume designer William Ivey Long, arts administrator Banks C. Talley Jr., art retailer Ruth Green, bookstore owner Nancy Olson, and composer J. Mark Scearce.

Dwane ole pal.
This is well deserved. You have the best, sharpest and most creative wit of all the cartoonists I’ve ever known.
Your work has been consistently outstanding. I think we got on the right track years ago with our bar napkin caricature battles. You always won.
