Jules Feiffer’s animation works

While known primarily for his work on Village Voice, Jules Feiffer also worked in animation under cartoonist Gene Deitch. Below are two examples.

First is “Foofle’s Train Ride”, a Terrytoons short released in 1959. Feiffer was credited for art designs in this short. It was directed by Dave Tendlar and originally released in CinemaScope by 20th Century Fox.

His most well-known work in animation, however, is probably this: “Munro”. It was released theatrically by Paramount Pictures and won an Oscar for best animated short. Deitch himself directed it.

Even though it’s often characterized as an American film, the production actually occurred in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic).

The film can be viewed in its entirety on Google Video.
