Denver Square ends today

Denver Square © Ed Stein
Today marks the end of Ed Stein’s 11 year run with his local daily comic strip Denver Square that ran in the Rocky Mountain News. While other local comic strips exist in America, Ed’s feature was the last daily local feature.
The local CBS affiliate television station did a report on Ed, as did the local NBC station. The RMN also has a live talk feature today at 9:00 am (MST) where Ed will be the guest.
UPDATE: Westward News has an excellent write up on Ed and Denver Square’s history.

Denver Square was one of my regular reads.
I love the idea of a strip that’s done for a local audience.
Cheers to Ed for trying something different and sticking with it for 11 years!

Best wishes to Ed Stein for 11 trail blazing years!
Local daily strips, as I noted on the other thread, not only benefits a newspaper with it’s regional based humor–readers from all over can discover the strip via the paper’s website–increasing online readership & ad revenue.

This is tragic. The comics page needs more local strips.
