Oliphant, Sorel, Davis, Drucker work included in American Presidents exhibit
From ComicsDC blog comes news that four nationally known cartoonists’ work has been included in the Smithsonian’s American Presidents exhibit. Pat Oliphant’s work includes some of his sculptures of various presidents. Edward Sorels has a caricature/painting of Jimmy Carter depicted as Daniel in the Lion’s Den, Jack Davis has a caricature of President Nixon shaking hands with Brezhnev, and the exhibit also includes MAD cartoonist, Mort Drucker’s caricature of China’s Mao with President Nixon.
The American President’s exhibit is a permanent collection that opened last summer.

It’s a great show; where else can you see an Oliphant Geo Bush cheek by jowl with a Gilbert Stuart Geo Washington? And till the end of the month the American Art Gallery that adjoins the National Portrait Gallery has a terrific show of Saul Steinberg’s work.
