I find Garry Trudeau’s comments from this ceremony interesting.
I’m not a big fan of Doonesbury. I think Doonesbury tries too hard to be topical, replacing what voice it once had with strained repeated whinings. Over and over again. On the occasions I’ve read the strip over the last few years it’s like beating a dead horse. Okay yeah I get it, you’re against the war in Iraq, you don’t like Bush. Blah blah blah.
What I DO like about Doonesbury, or rather the HISTORY of Doonesbury is it’s evolution from it’s early years as a college strip. For me, Doonesbury’s legacy (there’s that word again) is it’s only redeeming factor.
