Caption contest announced in Flying McCoys panel
Gary and Glenn McCoy have announced a caption contest in yesterday’s The Flying McCoys comic panel. The panel depicts a space shuttle flying toward an alien mountain that has a gaping mouth (my interpretation). The contest runs through Oct. 27 and can be entered by visiting their web site at www.theFlyingMcCoys.com. No indication has been made on a prize for the winner.
As a word of advice, those who are posting their caption entries to one of my old blog posts should direct their submissions to Gary and Glenn.
UPDATE: I thought this would be obvious, but after receiving a couple of captions via email - Please send your captions to Gary and Glenn at the web site above. I have not association with the creators or the contest. Do not send me your captions.

It says in tha article that a signed book is the prize. How about the signed original?

A signed original would be a great prize. They sell them for $300 each. That’s not too expensive so I think the request should fly!

I submitted two entries on Oct. 10th (for the Oct. 27th cut-off), but did not think to check on the contest winner announcement until today. So… when IS that contest’s winner going to be announced?

I have the following information: ” …..the contest just concluded Oct. 27, and since we received thousands of entries, it’ll take our judging committee a few weeks just to select the winner. From that point, the winner will be
notified, and then the winning cartoon caption will run 2 weeks after that (the normal lead time in newspaper syndication).”
Last year they posted a list of the winner plus honorable mentions on their website. But they never show the other entries. I would love to see them.

Just got an email back from Gary. He’s hoping to have something announced the week of December 11.

I sent an e-mail to Gary and asked that the prize for first place be a signed original. He did not say yes but he also did not say no. So if everyone wrote him with that request, perhaps the first place winner would receive a signed original.
Personally, I think it would be lovely if the winner could also receive a signed copy of his entry. I know these guys are busy as bees but you can’t put a price on good will and good publicity.

Does anyone know exactly where and when the winners will be posted?
Have they been posted and I just can’t find it?

Waiting for the winner of the contest — AND the winning caption. Any runners up?

I had the following note from Gary after I enquired as to the delay.
“Thanks for checking in. The winning cartoon will run on Dec. 30. It was a very tough contest to judge, with well over 3,000 entries. ……
We hope to have a message to all entrants on the website sometime around Dec. 30 also. Gary McCoy”
But I’m thinking, the contest was such fun, everyone who entered is a virtual winner. So congrats to us all.
