Dexter Booth celebrates Cartoonists Day drawing cartoons for kids
Today is National Cartoonist day (or at least today is the day it was usually observed) and at least one cartoonist is doing something to mark the day. Dexter Booth, the “cartoonist-in-residence” of the Fredericksburg Times (home of editorial cartoonist Clay Jones) will be at the local museum drawing cartoons for children.

So whatever happened to National Cartoonist’s Day? Nobody give me presents or flowers anymore. Was it overwhelmed by its overlap with Cinquo de Mayo? And it’s nearness to Free Comic Book Day?

Yes, the conflicting date with Cinco de Mayo was a a major factor in killing Cartoonists Day. The National Cartoonists Society, which had originally supported the idea, dropped it a few years ago and no longer promotes Cartoonists Day.

Still, I’m bitter. Can they reschedule it for a less crowded date? And today my secret anitspam code is ZNcWJGpP. What’s yours?
