Locher Award announced
The annual Locher award for best college editorial cartoonist was announced last weekend by Dick and Mary Locher. This year’s winner goes to William C Warren who attends Wake Forest University.
The Lochers:
In announcing the award at the end of last week by Dick & Mary Locher had this to say: “The subject matter of Warren’s four winning cartoons is timely and varied. They range from commentary on our dependance on Middle East oil, to Vice President Cheney’s hunting accident and Hillary Clinton’s run for president in 2008.”

The runners-up for this year’s award are as follows:
2nd place: Nate Robinson of Seattle, Washington. He is a student at the University of Washington. His cartoons appear in The Daily
3rd place: Sam Ayres of Littleton, Colorado. Sam attends Yale University where his cartoons appear in the Yale Daily News.
4th place: Dan Abramson attends Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where
his cartoons appear in the Daily Northwestern.

Tepid, unoriginal ideas. Cliched, unambitious art. I am not bothered by losing. I am bothered by losing to the artists that won. 4th place finisher’s work is especially weak.

Now that I’ve looked at the judges’ own work I can say I’m not surprised.
