College cartoonist unrepentant for cartoon
University of Saskatchewan’s campus cartoonist Jeff MacDonald is not sorry that he drew a cartoon depicting Jesus having sex with a pig. The editor, who was fired, has apologized numerous times.
MacDonald said his cartoon was intended to expose the double standard of Christians who were not offended by the recent European cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad.
But in an interview at a Saskatoon coffee shop Thursday afternoon, Will Robbins, the Sheaf’s editor when the cartoon was published, apologized numerous times
He said MacDonald’s cartoon was in bad taste, and was never intended for publication.
“It was a mistake. Clearly, we made a mistake. I am very sorry,” Robbins said in his first public comments on the issue.
2006 will go down as the year of the cartoon controversies.
