Newseum sponsoring cartoon controversy discussion
The Newseum is sponsoring a discussion on how publications should cover the cartoon controversy. The panel includes Signe Wilkinson of the Philadelphia Daily News.
How did the publication of cartoons portraying the Prophet Muhammad come to spark violent Islamic protests? Where should we draw the line between free speech and religious tolerance? What issues does the controversy raise for journalists and for people of faith? A panel that includes a cartoonist, journalists and a First Amendment expert discusses the rights, responsibilities and challenges of a free press.
The panel is scheduled for Friday, February 24, 2006 at 9 a.m. at the National Press Club. Call call (202) 662-7501 for more information.
