It’s not funny when Doonesbury buried in Sunday funnies
I some how missed this, but last Friday there was an article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the confusion and uproar that occured when Sunday readers of the Chronicle opened up the funnies to see Garfield on the front page and Doonesbury moved to page two.
For them I have good news: Doonesbury is alive and well in The Chronicle. But in a rare move it had been reduced in size and moved to the second comics page to make everything fit.
The shift was proof once more that the Sunday comics are no laughing matter. It also was a reminder that when the paper messes around with a popular feature, it ought to let readers know what’s up. Otherwise, readers have no choice but to guess.
