Steve Benson to lecture at UVSC
Arizona Republic editorial cartoonist Steve Benson will be visiting the Utah Valley State College for a public lecture wherein he’ll speak on “Drawing Democracy: The Role of Political Cartooning in American History.”
Utah Valley State College will host a public lecture and demonstration Friday at 11 a.m. in room 101 of the Physical Education Building, featuring guest lecturer Steven Benson, editor and cartoonist for the Arizona Republic newspaper. His lecture titled, “Drawing Democracy: The Role of Political Cartooning in American History,” will address the role of editorial cartooning in American politics.
Benson won a Pulitzer Prize in 1993 and is former president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. He graduated cum laude in Political Science from Brigham Young University and currently lives in Gilbert, Ariz., with his wife and four children.
“This is an opportunity to hear a nationally recognized political figure speak about his work and hear about the way cartoons shape public opinion,” said Bill Evenson, associate dean of sciences.
