Old idea, new media
According to this business columnist, the newspaper industry is in a great position to make the leap into the internet world.
Publishers are struggling to develop a new business model to reap revenue from users of a medium who from the Internet’s earliest days have usually balked at paying for content.
Yet for all that, we may be at the dawn of a new golden age of newspapers.
The industry’s baby steps to date in embracing the Internet and its 900 million users will likely accelerate into a full-blown renaissance, as newspapers evolve into gateways to the Internet — Web portals where people go for a broad array of information and services.
